Terms of Service
Last updated August 16, 2026
Orrery is in free beta. These terms are written to be readable rather than exhaustive; if anything here conflicts with the law where you live, the law wins.
1. Who we are
Orrery (“we”, “us”) is operated by Orrery Lab. Contact: hello@orrerylab.com.
2. Your account
You need an account to use Orrery, and you must be old enough to form a binding contract where you live (at least 13, and 16 in the EEA/UK). You are responsible for activity under your account. One person per account; don’t share credentials.
3. Free beta and limits
The free plan includes 2 projects and 5 questions per day (questions and related-work exports share that daily allowance, which resets at midnight UTC). Captures, sources, and connections are not metered, up to a fair-use cap of 2,000 sources per account during the beta.
Because this is a beta, limits, features, and pricing can change. We will give notice in the app before reducing anything you already rely on, and paid plans will never apply retroactively to work you have already done.
4. Your content stays yours
You keep all rights to the pages you capture and the notes, projects, and graphs you create. You grant us only the permission we need to run the service: to store your content, process it (including sending relevant excerpts to our AI providers to generate cards, connections, and answers), and show it back to you.
We do not sell your content, use it to train AI models, or show it to other users. You can export everything as JSON at any time, and deleting your account deletes your graph with it.
5. Capturing responsibly
Orrery captures a page only when you ask it to. You are responsible for having the right to save what you save, and for respecting the terms of the sites you capture from, including paywalls, licences, and any site’s own rules about automated access.
Don’t use Orrery to store unlawful material or to infringe anyone’s rights.
6. AI output is a starting point, not an authority
Orrery grounds connections and answers in quotes from your own sources, and refuses to answer when your sources don’t support it. That reduces invention — it does not eliminate error. Verify anything you rely on against the original source before citing it, publishing it, or making a decision on it. Related-work drafts are drafts; you are the author of anything you submit.
7. Acceptable use
Don’t attempt to break, overload, or circumvent the service — including its rate limits, quotas, or account boundaries — and don’t access other users’ data. Don’t resell the service or use it to build a competing dataset by bulk extraction.
8. Availability
The beta runs on free and low-cost infrastructure. It can be slow, briefly unavailable, or degraded (for example, connection-building pauses when the daily AI budget is reached — your captures are still saved). We aim to be honest in the interface about what is happening rather than hide it.
9. Ending things
You can delete your account at any time from the dashboard. We may suspend or end an account that breaks these terms or puts the service at risk; where practical we will tell you why and give you a chance to export first.
10. Disclaimers and liability
The service is provided “as is”, without warranties of any kind, to the fullest extent the law allows. We are not liable for indirect or consequential losses, or for lost profits, revenue, or data. Where liability cannot be excluded, it is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us in the past 12 months (currently zero, in the free beta) or US$50.
Nothing here limits liability for fraud, or for anything that cannot legally be limited.
11. Changes to these terms
If we change these terms materially, we will update the date above and tell you in the app before the change takes effect. Continuing to use Orrery after that means you accept the new terms.
12. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Florida, USA, and disputes belong to the state or federal courts located there — without limiting any mandatory consumer rights you have where you live.
